Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather John B. Martinez entered into eternal life surrounded by his family at his home in Romeroville on Wednesday May 25, 2016. John was born on June 10, 1941, in Holman to Thomas and Teresita Martinez who precede him in death. In 1951 John's family moved to Romeroville where they operated a gas station and post office. In 1955 John relocated to Colorado Springs, started his career as a chef, working at the Embers Hotel and El Tico Restaurant in Manitou Springs, Colo.On Oct. 28, 1961, John was united in marriage to the love of his life, Elvira Lucero, at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas. In 1967, John and Elvira returned to Las Vegas where they operated the steak house café for a few years. John also worked for Martinez Gas Company as a truck driver and for Air Lock Logging Company as crew leader until his retirement in 1981 after being diagnosed with MS. He is survived by his loving wife, Elvira Martinez, of Romeroville and his children, Eugina (Michael) Martinez of Bernal, Theresa (Ernest) Jaramillo of Romeroville, Eugene (Sheila) Martinez of Romeroville, Johnny (Terri) Martinez of Las Vegas, Thomas Martinez of Romeroville, and Maria (Steve) Martinez of Los Martinitos. He is also survived by grandchildren Julian Bustamante, Isaac Martinez, Natasha Vigil, Norman Martinez, Amanda Foster, Johnpaul Martinez, Michael Thomas Martinez, Sebastian Bustamante, Nathan Martinez, Leona Encinias, Christian Martinez, Tabitha Leyba, Kimberly Martinez and Joshua Martinez and 19 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a great granddaughter Destiny Bustamante. Rosary devotional services will be conducted at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, May 31 at Our Lady of Sorrows Church. The funeral mass will follow, with Father George Salazar as celebrant. Burial of cremains will take place at a later date with a private family service. Arrangements are under the direction of Gonzales Funeral Home.
