John Larry Banyas, 75, of Boca Raton passed away on Sunday, December 4, 2016. John was born on September 3, 1941 in Emmaus, PA a son of the late John and Elsie Banyas. John served his country with the US Navy as a air control man. He obtained the Rank of Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America and was a 4th Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus. John graduated from Emmaus High School, Charles Morris School of Advertising. John also taught Dale Carnegie courses. John was a talented drummer and singer. He formed his own band called "Buddy & the Blue Coats" and played drums in the Call Chronicle Orchestra. John worked in the newspaper industry for the Call Chronicle in Allentown, PA and later for Times Publishing in St. Petersburg, FL. Buddy, as he was affectionately known, owned and operated 4 clothing and shoe stores called Sands of Florida. In 1990 he sold the stores, moved to Boca Raton and opened Sands in Delray Beach and also Buddy's Shoes www.buddyshoes.com. John was a member of St John the Evangelist Catholic Church and served as an Alter Server. John is survived by his loving wife of 30 years Ali, two daughters Sherry Banyas and Amy Allen, 9 grandchildren, Andrew, Adam, Christopher, Michael, Shannon, Jake, Johnny, Isabelle and Alison. A sister Jan Nagy and two nephews Chuck and John Nagy also survive John. The family will receive friends at 10 AM on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at Babione Funeral Home, 10060 Calle Comercio Drive, Boca Raton, FL 33428. A Funeral Services with Military Honors will begin at 11:00 A.M. John will be laid to rest at South Florida National Cemetery at a later date
