John C. Melansonof Fitchburg, U.S. Marine Vet; 57 FITCHBURG -- John C. Melanson, 57, of Fitchburg, passed away on November 8, due to complications from Diabetes.He was born on December 16, 1958 in Whitinsville, MA, the son of Norman T. "Cookie" and Catherine A. "Tina" Melanson. John attended Leominster Public Schools and graduated from St. Bernard's High School in 1977 where he played Varsity Football. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he served 9 years stationed in Hawaii with the Aviation Crash Crew and later as a guard in the submarine naval base in New London, CT. John worked for several years in construction and with United Parcel Services. He enjoyed spending time with his family and was an avid Boston Red Sox and Patriots fan.In addition to his parents, he leaves two sons, Dean C. Melanson and his wife, Nicole of Fitchburg and Colin Melanson of Petersham, MA; his daughter, Katie Melanson of Petersham, MA; grandchildren, Zachary, Zoey, and Kyle; several aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.John was predeceased by his son, Kyle W. Melanson in 2013, and a brother, Gregory Melanson.MELANSON -- The funeral will be held from Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., Fitchburg on Tuesday, November 15, with a Mass in Our Lady of the Lake Church, 1400 Main St., Leominster at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in the MA Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Winchendon. Calling hours will be from 4-6 p.m. on Monday, November 14, in the funeral home.
