John H. CollinsPoughkeepsie - John H. Collins, (Jack), age 95, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and faith at the Lutheran Care Center in Poughkeepsie on March 18, 2017.Jack was born on January 29, 1922 in Brooklyn, NY and was the son of John and Margaret Collins. He served in the U.S Coast Guard during WWII aboard the U.S.S. Key West and received several medals for his service. Jack earned his bachelor's degree from St. John's University and his MBA from NYU, attending night school for 10 years, while working and raising a family. He worked for Blue Cross and Blue Shield for over 30 years. He retired in 1983. On May 23, 1953, he married Helen Lynch at Our Lady of Lourdes Chapel in Queens Village, NY. They started building their family in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn where they had two girls. Later they moved to Queens Village and added four more children to the family. In 1969, they moved the family to Hyde Park. Jack was a devoted father, husband, friend and a faithful member of Regina Coeli Catholic Church. He was a 4th degree Knight at the Hyde Park Council 6111 Knights of Columbus and was a member of the Regina Coeli Men's Club and Golf League. Jack is survived by his daughter, Kathy Clarke, and husband, Kevin; daughter, Lori Hedrick, and husband, Ernie; son, Joe Collins, and wife, Barbara; son-in-law, Frank Tkazyik; grandchildren: Jennifer Burns and husband, Patrick; Suzanne Karnis and husband, Sam; Frank Tkazyik and wife, Catherine; Laura Briehof and husband, Jarrod; Jessica Patterson and husband, Doug; Ernie Hedrick and wife, Ashley; Kristilee Hedrick; Joe Collins and fiancée, Mary; Tyler Collins; and seven great-granddaughters and one great-grandson. He is predeceased by his wife, Helen Collins; his daughter, Margie Tkazyik; and his sons, Jimmy and Johnny Collins. Calling hours will be on Friday, March 24th from 4 to 8 pm at Sweet's Funeral Home, Rte. 9, Hyde Park. The Knights of Columbus will conduct services at 7:30pm.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Patrick Curley at Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel of St. Peter's Parish, 185 Hudson View Drive, Poughkeepsie at 10 am on Saturday, March 25th. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery, Poughkeepsie.In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Rocky Strong Foundation, a local non-profit organization to help caregivers of seriously ill patients work through their loved ones' illness with grace, hope and dignity.
