John DoughertyAGE: 49 • Hockessin, DEJohn Dougherty, of Hockessin, DE, passed away on January 4, 2017 from complications of a stroke. He was surrounded by family and friends who loved him. John was born on March 3, 1967 in Wilmington, DE. He was the son of the late Patricia Ann Biggins and James Phillip Dougherty. John graduated from Alexis I. duPont High School in 1986. John was a master craftsman of hardwood flooring. He started his career at Charles G. Taylor and Sons in 1987 where he worked as a foreman and shared his extensive knowledge while training apprentices. In 2004, John started JTD Hardwood Floors where his creativity and expertise accelerated and continued on.John was an avid fisherman, loved driving on the beach and fishing in the surf. He enjoyed listening to music and going to concerts with friends and family. He was "Uncle John" to everyone. When someone was in need he was the first one to their rescue. He was adored by all kids and animals. John was a sports enthusiast cheering on the Philadelphia teams. He could always be found coaching or on the sidelines of his children's baseball and lacrosse games, swim meets or listening to the AI duPont Marching Band.He is survived by his high school sweetheart and loving wife, Carol Ann (Neiffer); his two children, Elizabeth and Connor who were his pride and joy; siblings, Francis Dougherty and his wife, Judy, Mary Dougherty and Jake Dougherty; brother-in-laws, Richard Neiffer and his wife, Cheryl and James Dobbs; sister-in-laws, Joan McVaugh and Sally Neiffer. He is also survived and dearly loved by ten nieces and nephews, twelve great-nieces and nephews and a multitude of cousins and friends. He will be missed by his furry companions Stout, Porter and Dexter.He was predeceased by his mother, Patricia Ann Dougherty; in-laws, Elmer and Esther Neiffer, sister-in-law, Sandra Neiffer Dobbs, brother-in-law, Robert Neiffer and his nephew, Richard Neiffer Jr.Relatives and friends are invited to the Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, January 12th, at 10:00 am at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 7200 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE. Family and friends may call at the DOHERTY FUNERAL HOME, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Wednesday evening from 4:30 - 7:30 pm.
