Maurer, Sr., John E.John E. Maurer, Jr., 92, Marshfield, died on Friday, November 4, 2016 at Ministry St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at Rembs Funeral Home where the visitation will be from 9:30 am until service time. Rev. Eric Berns will officiate. Burial will take place in Veterans Field of Honor in Hillside Cemetery, Marshfield, where military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 54 and grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. John was born on November 20, 1923 in Marshfield to John and Hedwig (Yungwerth) Maurer, Sr. and attended school in Bakerville. He was a veteran of the United States Army during World War II from March 15, 1943 until his honorable discharge on January 7, 1946. He served in the Battle of the Bulge and received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with 4 Bronze Stars, 2 Overseas Service Bars and the Good Conduct Medal. He married Maureen Marshall in 1947 and they later divorced. He married Clair Fenhouse and she passed away on June 23, 2002. John had been employed for Maurer's Roofing and later Stickert Lumber. He then owned and operated the Tin Inn in Catawba. Later he built and owned the Redwood Supper Club in Unity after open heart surgery. He then managed the Village Plaza in Spencer until moving to McAllen, Texas, where they managed a Motel 6 for a number of years before retiring. John was a member of the American Legion Post 54, the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 1866, the Marshfield Eagles Club, the Knights of Columbus and the Fourth Degree Assembly of Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his sons, James (Diane) Maurer of Spencer and Kim (Charlene) Maurer of Winneconne. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 8 step great grandchildren. He is further survived by a brother, Edward (Lois) Maurer of Marshfield, special friend, Bea Terski and sisters-in-law, Mabel Fenhouse and Isabelle Murphy. He was predeceased by his wife, Clair, a son, Donald J. Maurer, sisters, Marie Jensen and Katherine Pankratz, and brothers, Al, Hank, Frank, Willie Maurer.
