John F. Cooley, 88, of Clarksburg, Maryland passed away at University of Maryland Medical Center, Wednesday, October 19, 2016, due to complications from a stroke. He was the beloved husband of Bonnie W. Cooley. Mr. Cooley was born on June 20, 1928 to Franklin and Maggie Davis Cooley. He was a veteran of the United States
Army, discharged in 1947, and subsequently graduated from Benjamin Franklin University. Mr. Cooley retired from the Department of Energy in 2000 where he had worked for over thirty years. He served as the treasurer at Clarksburg United Methodist Church for 25 years and has been a member of the church since 1968. Mr. Cooley previously served as fire chief with the Hyattstown Volunteer Fire Company and has been a member of the American Legion for over 60 years.Surviving besides his wife Bonnie, are his sons: John, Tavis, and Tristan; grandchildren: Joseph, John, Nick, Taylor, Jason, Dylon, and Ryan; sisters: Elizabeth, Ollie, and Nancy; and brother, George. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, October 25, at Molesworth-Williams Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus, Maryland 20872. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday October 26 at the funeral home. Following services Mr. Cooley will be laid to rest at Clarksburg Methodist Cemetery.
