John F. FritzPORT CLINTON: John F. Fritz, 88, lifelong resident of Port Clinton, Ohio, passed away on December 20, 2016 at his residence. He was born on July 27, 1928 in Port Clinton, a son of Sylvester and Gertrude (Ambrose) Fritz. On January 7, 1950, he married Elva B. Reynolds who preceded him in death on June 4, 2011. John was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps and served our country during the
Korean Conflict. He worked for Bolte Agency as a realtor and insurance agent for over 50 years. He was an active and faithful member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and also a 70 year member of the Port Clinton Knights of Columbus Council 1750 where he served as past Grand Knight. He was elected to Port Clinton City Council and served as President of Council before winning election as Mayor in 1971. He served as Mayor for 17 years until 1988 at which time he was elected as an Ottawa County Commissioner, serving two four year terms. He was a former President and Officer of the Port Clinton Kiwanis Club for over 50 years where he was awarded the Hixon Fellowship Award. He will be remembered by many as a Boy Scout Leader, having served for over 53 years, where he earned the St. George Award and the Silver Beaver Award. He was a former President of the Port Clinton Booster Club, member of the American Legion, Marine Corps League, Port Clinton Moose Lodge, Port Clinton
Elks Lodge, Eagles Club, IMACOG and Ottawa County Democratic Club, where he served as Past County Chairman. John served on many local, state, and national Realtor Organizations. John was an avid golfer, loved Notre Dame and taking care of the Veteran Star Memorial. He was very proud of planning the Memorial Day Ceremonies for Port Clinton for over 50 years and has everything in place for 2017.He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and will be missed by all whose lives he touched. Survivors include his daughter, Tamara (Paul) Anderson, Port Clinton; son, Jeffrey (Sandra) Fritz, Pasadena, California; grandsons, Phillip Anderson and Patrick Fritz; and his dog, Sadie, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, brothers, William and Jerome Fritz, and sister, Betty Hallock. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 6, 2017 from 2-8pm at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, 1124 Fulton Street, Port Clinton, Ohio. On Saturday, January 7, 2017 (John and Elva's 67th wedding anniversary), a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 414 Madison Street, Port Clinton, Ohio. Prayers before the service will be held at 10am at the Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Port Clinton, with military honors being conducted by the United States Marine Corps.
