Anderson, John Frederick 92, of Chandler, AZ, peacefully passed away on October 28, 2017 after saying goodbye to all of his children. John was born on September 20, 1925. He graduated from the University of Minnesota HS in 1943 and served in the United States Army Infantry until 1946. He served overseas both in Germany, where he was part of the force that freed Dachau and dispersed the German SS, and then, after VE Day, in the Philippines. He met his wife of over 46 years, Rita Hartwell Anderson, at the University of Kansas where he studied graphic design. Over his career he worked for Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, KS, a small firm in Minneapolis, MN, Meredith Publishing Company in Des Moines, IA and IBM in Boulder, CO and Boca Raton, FL. After retiring from IBM in 1987 John and Rita moved several times before settling in Phoenix, AZ in 1993 to be near their daughter, Margaret. John was an avid golfer, who loved all sports and loved to read. He had a remarkable and witty sense of humor. He very much loved his family and adored his dogs. He was a gentle spirit and a vital force who will be greatly missed. John was preceded in death by his wife, Rita (1998) and his granddaughter, Mary Teresa Kimball (2005). He is survived by his five children, Martin (Sara), Eric (Gail), Stewart (Deb), Margaret (Bill) Ramsay, Mary Catherine Kimball; ten grandchildren (Ivan, Jacob, Ian, Zach, Billy, Kyle, Julia, John, Joey, Naomi) and eight great-grandchildren (Caleb, Lucas, Matias, Ada, Lily, Bohdi, Emma, Lauren). A memorial service will be held in his honor at the Mountain View Lutheran Church on Friday, December 15 at 10:00 am. In lie of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to Summit Healthcare Services, 1717 W Northern Ave, Ste 117, Phoenix, AZ 85021.
