John J. GoodallBeacon - John J. Goodall, a lifelong resident of Beacon, entered into rest on August 2, 2017 at his home with his family by his side. He was 89.John was born on March 10, 1928 in Beacon, the son of the late John and Margaret Hagan Goodall. John was a veteran of the
United States Navy and participated in Operation Crossroads, which tested the effects of the Atomic Bomb on ships at Bikini Atoll. On September 9, 1950 at St. John the Evangelist Church he married the former Mary Lucas who survives at home. John worked for 46 years at National Biscuit Company which later became Federal Paper Board as a pressman. He was a parishioner of St. Joachim - St. John the Evangelist Church, was past president of the Holy Name Society, honorary life member and Past Grand Knight of Trinity Council #445 Knights of Columbus and was active in Boy Scout Troop 24.In addition to his wife, John is survived by his children, Michael and his wife, Melissa of Roswell, GA, Patrick and his wife, Maryalice of Wappingers Falls, Rosemary Vogt and her husband, Greg of Westport, CT, Timothy and his wife, Gretchen of Katonah, Andrew and his wife, Donna of Beacon, Peter and his fiancé, Kathy Neu of Beacon and Leanne Funk and her husband, David of Wappingers Falls; his 16 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren; his sister, Sarah Goodall of Geneseo; his sister-in-law, Margaret Goodall of Fishkill; many nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his siblings, Harold, James, William, Joseph, Marie Papo, Margaret McGarvey and Theresa Neuheisal. The family will receive their friends on Tuesday, August 8 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Halvey Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Willow Street, Beacon. Members of the Knights of Columbus will hold a service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, August 9 at 10 a.m. at St. Joachim Church, 51 Leonard Street, Beacon. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Joachim Cemetery, 325 Washington Avenue, Beacon.The family would like to give a special thank you to Emily, Bridget and Lisa for their kind and compassionate care of John.
