ODESSA - John H. Searcy, longtime resident of Odessa passed away Sunday, November 13, 2016 at Medical Center Hospital. He was 79 years old. He was born on November 16, 1936 in Lake Village, Arkansas to Hicks and Ladye Belle Searcy. He graduated from Eudora High School in 1954. Shortly after graduation he joined the
United States Marine Corps. Stationed in Pendleton, CA and serving in the Philippines and Alaska. He was honorably discharged in 1958. He married Peggy Harris May 1, 1959. They have one daughter, Susan Michelle Searcy. He owned his own business J & P Equipment for 25 years and was working for Fitz Equipment at the time of his death. John was in an Anonymous 12 step program for 36 years and has helped countless individuals find a new way and a new life of sobriety. He loved the game of football and he and Peggy followed the Permian Panthers for many years. He loved to fish and hunt anytime he had the opportunity, hunting in Colorado, the Yukon Territory and many places in Texas. He was a member of the Dumplin's Restaurant gang. He raised English Pointers and spent hours' bird hunting. Summers were spent at Oak Creek Lake teaching kids how to water ski. John had a love of life, the oilfield, a quick wit and a lively sarcastic sense of humor that made your day a little brighter. He is survived by his wife Peggy, daughter, Susan Searcy of Odessa and beloved grand dog, Faith and Bella, his sister, Sue Warren of Lake Providence, LA and brother, Joe Lee of St. Louis, MO and many nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Glenice Searcy Hendrick, and his aunt, Pauline "Polly" Searcy Mitchell, and his "Second" daughter, Tracy Scott Dickerson. Funeral services will be held at Bethany Christian Church, 4522 N. Everglade, Friday, November 18th at 2:00 pm officiated by Dr. Jimmy Braswell. Pallbearers will be Dr. Weldon Butler, Mike Fitzgerald, Bob Forbus, Vern Foreman, Brian Knighten, Ben Montgomery, Johnny Russell, and Scott Russell. Honorary pallbearers will be Keatyn Armstrong, Corbyn Armstrong, Kendyn Armstrong, Reed Berlin, Jim Bob Coots, Jeremy Cole Forbus, Jerry Harrold, David Hoggard, Paul Hoggard, Craig Lomax, and Dell Rasmussen. We would like to express our gratitude to the nurses and staff of Star Hospice and 8th floor of Medical Center Hospital. Memorials may be made to Bethany Christian Church. Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
