John D. HamptonDillsburgJohn Dennis Hampton, 67, passed away peacefully at home on April 20, 2016. He was born on December 29, 1948 in Leadville, Colo. and lived in the Dillsburg area since 1975. He graduated from Colorado College with a B.A. in Biology, from Western State College with a M.A. in Education, and from the University of Pennsylvania with a Masters of Governmental Administration. He served in the
Army and Army Reserves, and the Navy and Navy Reserves. He retired from the Navy Reserves in 1999 as a Lieutenant Commander. He worked for the Pennsylvania State Civil Service Commission as a Human Resource Analyst and retired in 2008.John is survived by his wife of 42 years, Ellen; his daughters, Alison (JR) Zeigler and Dr. Ashley (Brian) Shields; his grandchildren, Natalie, Isaac, and Ryan Zeigler; and his sisters, Joanne (Brad) Seaman and Pamela (Bud) Keane.Services will be held Monday, April 25, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Barrens United Lutheran Church, 232 Kralltown Rd., Dillsburg. Burial with military honors will be held at Barrens Salem Union Cemetery, Dillsburg. Viewings will be held Sunday, April 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Cocklin Funeral Home, Inc., 30 N. Chestnut St., Dillsburg, and Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.John fought a good fight against ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) and received wonderful care from the Penn State Hershey ALS Clinic, the Veterans Administration, and Hospice of Central Pennsylvania.
