John Henry Schwartz, Jr. ROCK HILL - John Henry (Johnny) Schwartz, Jr. (60) of Rock Hill passed away peacefully on September 23, 2016. He was born on May 4, 1956 in Washington D.C. to the late John Henry and Ellen Tucker Schwartz. Johnny was a 1974 graduate of Northwestern High School and went on to earn both a Bachelor's and Master's Degree from Winthrop University. He served six years as a navigator in the U.S. Air Force where he earned the rank of Captain. Johnny was a gifted high school athlete, excelling in both cross country and track. He was Captain of the 1973 SC State Championship Cross Country Team; the first state championship in any sport won by Northwestern High School. He was also the winner of the first Winthrop Eagle Run in 1978. Johnny worked for many years in various child development centers across York County. He taught generations of children the joy of music and especially enjoyed introducing them to the Beatles through his performances on 'Mr. Guitar.' Johnny spent many of his young adult years as the caretaker for his special needs sister. He was a generous, multi-talented, and singularly unique individual who touched many people's lives. His heart was as big as they come and those of us who were lucky enough to have known him are better off for our time with him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Sheila Schwartz and brother-in-law Jimmy Frasure. He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Mary Beth McJunkin Schwartz; sister Sandi Frasure; nephews Ritchie (Marcia) and Ben (Teresa) Frasure, niece Kimberly Frasure; and several great-nieces. A Celebration of Life for family and friends will be held in the coming weeks. Those wishing to make memorial donations are encouraged to do so at agencies benefiting children or those with special needs.
