John "Otts" C. HufnagelGlen RockJohn C. "Otts" Hufnagel, 60, died Monday, December 19, 2016 at York Hospital following a brief illness. He was the longtime companion of Jackie Frey.John was born on September 11, 1956 in York, a son of Mildred L. (Geiple) Hufnagel of Glen Rock and the late Arthur H. "Ottie" Hufnagel.He was a 1974 graduate of Susquehannock High School and retired in 2015 from the U.S. Postal Service as a Letter Carrier with the Shrewsbury Post Office following 32 years of service.Otts was Glen Rock's resident historian who contributed, researched and wrote about the history of the town. He was a founding member and was currently serving as the chairman of the Glen Rock Historic Preservation Society. He served as Chairman of Glen Rock Sesquicentennial Committee in 2009, overseeing the events of the weeklong celebration of the 150th Anniversary of founding of Glen Rock and was co-author of the book published at that time the "Glen Rock – An Historical Review." John also wrote "Glen Rock - Its Early Years and Its First Mill" and "The 100th Anniversary of the Glen Rock Auditorium and The Glen Theatre 1913 – 2012."John also was an active member of the White Rose Philatelic Society of York, serving as the Treasurer and assisted in organizing the York Stamp Collectors Show for many years. He was a member of the former Glen Rock Jaycees, where he served as a Chapter President and as a District Director, Regional Director, State Secretary and State Vice President of the Pennsylvania Jaycees.He also leaves a brother, James F. Hufnagel of Glen Rock and a nephew, Brandon C. Hufnagel. He was also predeceased by a niece, Briana C. Lazar. A public viewing will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, December 22, 2016 at the Geiple Funeral Home, Inc., 53 Main Street, Glen Rock.
