John Hutchinson HearneShreveport, LA - John Hutchinson Hearne, age 94, passed away on Monday, August 14, 2017. Visitation will be held Friday, August 18, 2017, at 9:30 a.m. in the parlor at St. Marks' Cathedral in Shreveport, followed by the funeral at 10:30 a.m. officiated by The Very Rev. Alston B. Johnson, Dean of St. Mark's Cathedral. Interment will follow at Forest Park Cemetery, St. Vincent Ave.John was born on March 4, 1923, to George M. Hearne Jr. and Helena Hutchinson Hearne. He was a 1939 graduate of Byrd High School, and attended Centenary College, Tulane University and
University of Texas. During
World War II John was a civilian flight instructor for the Army Air Corps program at Centenary College, and then a civilian ferry pilot for the Air Transport Command before serving in the
United States Navy with the rank of ensign. John was a long-time and faithful congregant at St. Mark's Cathedral, and served on the vestry and as treasurer. With his brother, George M. Hearne III, John continued The Hearne Dry Goods Co., which had been founded in 1902, until his retirement in 1995. He was married to Julia Norfleet Hearne from November 5, 1949, until her death in 2015. John and Julia travelled extensively and enjoyed a wide circle of friends. John was a long-time member of the Shreveport Club, and was recently honored with the Founders Cup award.Known by so many as the consummate gentleman, John will be missed by all who loved him.John was preceded in death by his parents and spouse, his brother George M. Hearne III, and nephew, William Whitley Cavett Sibley. He is survived by his nephews and nieces, George Marion Hearne IV, Sanders Fowler Hearne, William Lake Hearne, James Hutchinson Hearne, Virginia Sibley Perryman, Cara Darr Sims, Margaret Darr Calazons, John Michael Sims Rogan, Davis Moody Emerson Rogan, Ama Ford Darr Rogan, and Alcena Madeline Davis Rogan; cousins, John Marion Jeter and Henry Marston Hearne; and extended family and friends, including his brother-in-law, Jackson Cavett Sibley.Pallbearers will be Sanders Fowler Hearne Jr., William Lake Hearne Jr., John Marion Hearne, John Graham Cavett Sibley, Bruce William Jackson Sibley, Thomas J. Ostendorff III, Thomas Haller Jackson III, and G. Archer Frierson II. The family suggest memorial donations be made to St. Mark's Cathedral or the Community Foundation of North Louisiana.
