John Joseph McClary, Jr., 63, of Yuma passed away on April 8, 2009 at Yuma Regional Medical Center with his family present following complications resulting from a stroke. John was born on August 2, 1945 in Baltimore, Maryland to John Sr. and Martha McClary. The family relocated to Junction City, Oregon where John spent an active childhood with his seven brothers and sisters and learned his way around a farm. He began school at Oregon State University but left after two years to join the U.S. . Marine Corp where he earned the rank of Sergeant serving as an Air Traffic Controller and did a tour of duty in Vietnam. The Marines brought John to Yuma where he met his wife Caroline and started a family. After receiving an honorable discharge from the USMC, John worked as an electrical apprentice with Bonus Electric and was honored as one of the top apprentices in the state in 1972. John continued his career with Holbrook Electric and then went on to start a successful business in 1985, McClary Electric, where he served the local community until his retirement in August of 2008. John, Caroline and daughters Melissa and Brandy led an active lifestyle surrounded by friends and family, if they weren't hosting a gathering at their house you would most likely find them camping, heading out to the river, the dunes or down to El Golfo. An avid NASCAR fan, you would frequently find John glued to the TV on the week-end sporting his Jeff Gordon hat and jacket. Remembered by many for his signature mischievous, crooked little grin, John was happiest when surrounded by those he loved. John is preceded in death by his wife, Caroline, and by his parents John Sr. and Martha McClary. He is survived by his daughters, Melissa (Scott) McGinness of Los Angeles, Ca.; Brandy Walton of Yuma; grandson Jayden Walton of Yuma and his faithful companion Brooke. John is also survived by his siblings Kathleen O'Neal (Gary), Maggie Nelson (Paul), Rob McClary (Reba), Eileen McClary (Vaune), Terry McClary (Norine), Joan Rapkoch (Steve) and Michelle Senecal (Matt), all of whom reside in Oregon or Washington. A memorial service to celebrate John's journey through life will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2009, Johnson Mortuary, 11 a.m.
