John Larry Stiffler, 61, of Salem, died at 8:10 AM Thursday, November 3, 2022, following a two year illness at Salem North Healthcare under the care of Community Hospice.
He was born March 20, 1961 in Salem, son of the late Paul Andrew and Pearl Virginia (Welsh) Stiffler.
John was a lifetime area resident, attended Salem City Schools. He had worked for 43 years, up until August 2022, at Ort Furniture as an assembler/stuffer/loader. He enjoyed working there and made numerous friends including Steve Wilson who he considered a "Good friend".
His favorite time of year was winter, all the snow that went well with the Christmas season. The “magic of Christmas", and all things that went together about the holiday was John. The summer time was great for watching fireworks, having his flowers out on the porch. He was a bargain hunter and enjoyed going to the flea markets and yard sales. John also found it profitable on having yard sales of his own. He loved talking to people and this gave him the opportunity to visit with many. In the fall he would visit Bedford, PA., where his parents were from, to enjoy the Fall Festival and bright colors of the leaves.
Don’t get him started on sports unless you had lots of time, John loved all sports but favored the Dallas Cowboys, Cincinnati Reds, and the Golden State Warriors, and loved to talk about them. He also enjoyed baseball and attended games in Pittsburgh, Cleveland, and Cincinnati over the years. Another big highlight of the year was watching the Master’s golf tournament. John truly loved to travel and visit Ocean City, MD. with the family to enjoy the sites and the ocean, as well as Niagara Falls in Canada. There were many places he visited over the years, but had always hoped to see the western states as well as Hawaii.
John was a big fan of John Wayne, collected many things and followed his life story and acting career. A fan of following the "Big Foot sighting" it always was very intriguing to him. In his younger years he enjoyed WWF and attending events. John loved and enjoyed many things in his life but the one thing he hated most was cutting the grass.
He is survived by his sisters, Connie Lee (Gale) Lester and Shirley Ann Giffin both of Salem, numerous nieces and nephews
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Buddy Gene Stiffler.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, 2 Pm at the Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen & Sons Funeral and Cremation Services, Salem.
