John G. McGrath, 92, of Kingsley, passed away on April 15, 2014 at Endless Mountains Health Systems, Montrose. He was predeceased by his wife of over 50 years, Kathleen M. (Ryan) McGrath in 1999.He was born on November 27, 1921 in New York, N.Y., to the late James C. and Katherine (Pistor) McGrath. John is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, John and Sally McGrath, Kingsley; sister, Margaret McGrath, Long Island, N.Y.; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Joseph C. McGrath; and sister, Helen Schlameuss.John retired as a Battalion Chief after working 33 years for the New York City Fire Department and moved to Kingsley in 1982. He was a member of the Holy Name of Mary Church where he served as an Altar Server and did publicity for the church for many years. He was also an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion and a member of the Men of the Sacred Heart. He attended daily mass and enjoyed gardening and baking. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at the Holy Name of Mary Church with Rev. Philip Rayappan officiating. Visitation was held at the Daniel K. Regan Funeral Home on Tuesday evening, April 22. Interment will be at the Holy Name of Mary Cemetery, Montrose.Donations in John's memory may be made to the Holy Name of Mary Building Fund, 278 S.
