John Douglas Myers
SEDALIA — John Douglas Myers, 65, of Cole Camp, died Saturday, December 3, 2016, at Bothwell Regional Health Center, Sedalia. He was born on October 20, 1951, in Leesburg, Virginia, a son of George Shirley and Alma (Shumate) Myers, Sr.
He graduated from Loudoun County High School in Leesburg, VA, and attended George Mason University Virginia, where he studied economics.
On February 24, 1990, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Baden, Maryland, he was united in marriage to Wendy Jeanne Wiedemann.
While living in Leesburg, VA, he was a crop and cattle farmer. In 2005, John and his family moved from his farm in Leesburg, VA, to a farm west of Cole Camp, where he raised both crops and cattle. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Sedalia, Agape Sunday School Class, Missouri Farm Bureau, Missouri Corn Growers Association, American Soybean Association, and a lifetime member of the NRA. He loved to farm and hunt, learning about American history, especially the Civil War, and spending time with his family and his dog, Heidi. His interests also included tractor pulls, farms shows and being outdoors.
He is survived by: his wife, Wendy Myers of the home; a daughter, Sarah Michelle Myers of the home; a son, John Clifford "JC" Myers of Cole Camp; and two brothers, G. Shirley Myers, Jr. and Kathy of Macon, GA, and Lewis Shumate Myers of Leesburg, VA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Myers, Sr. and Alma Myers.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 8, 2016, at Wesley United Methodist Church, Sedalia, with Pastor Dennis Harper officiating.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 7, 2016, at Wesley United Methodist Church in Sedalia.
The family suggests memorial contributions be given to Wesley United Methodist Church in care of the Fox Funeral Home, Cole Camp.
