CARLISLE John R. Orris, Jr., 83, formerly of Camp Hill, passed away with his wife by his side on Wednesday, May 28, 2014. He was born on December 9, 1930, in York, to the late Charlotte (Helder) and John R. Orris. He was a 1949 graduate of New Cumberland High School and later attended umpiring school in Florida. He was a U.S. Marine veteran, and a graduate of both Millersville State College and Bowling Green State University. He was a retired math teacher from Camp Hill High School and taught math part-time at HACC. John was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Camp Hill, and a 32nd degree Mason with the Scottish Right Valley of Harrisburg. He enjoyed fishing, fly fishing, and gardening. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Kay Orris. John is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Shirley A. (Benner) Orris of Carlisle; a son, Jon D. Orris of Colorado; a daughter, Margie DeAngelis and husband, John of New York; a brother, William Orris of York; a sister, Mary Jane Mitchell of York; three grandsons, Luke, Mark, and John; as well as many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 2, 2014, at 11 a.m. with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2000 Chestnut St, Camp Hill. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Cure PSP, 30 E. Padonia Road, Suite 201, Timonium, MD 21093; or to the Benevolent Fund of Cumberland Crossings, 1 Longsdorf Way, Carlisle, PA 17015.
