Celebration of Life

John Anderson Jr. was born in New York, NY on December 22, 1944 to John Anderson Sr and Sylvia Anderson.  At the age of 20 in 1965, John met and married Ivery Dean Johnson and had two children, Michael and Marcus.  John entered the US Army in October 1965, serving his country bravely in the Vietnam War and Army Reservist until his honorable discharge in December 1971.  John returned home and resumed working for the NYC Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) until December 1978 as a Maintenace Supervisor.  He remained in the Greater New York area and continued work as a mechanic, truck driver and maintenance worker from 1971 to 1989.

John relocated to Wichita, Kansas in 1989, where he began work as a Maintenance Manager for the University of Wichita, Kansas.  Working at the University, John very quickly created lifelong friendships with Robin Dobbs-Venegas and Glenn & Theresa Fisher.  During this time, John found love again and married Myan Phung in 2013.  John retired from the university in 2016 to continue caring for his wife, Myan until her passing in 2016.

John suffered from congenital heart failure as a result of the Vietnam War and was admitted to the Robert J. Dole VA Hospital in Wichita, KS for the final time in April 2019.  The Lord welcomed John home on April 25, 2019, reuniting him with his mother Sylvia and father Ollis.  John is survived by his sister Veronica Tafe, his sons Michael and Marcus, his grandchildren Shardasia, Shardelle & Chaise, his cherised neices and nephew Inga, Danielle and Brandon, his brother-in-law WadeRoy, his daugther in laws, Rose and Alicia, his stepsons Vuong & Thang, his childhood & best friend David Hughes and wife Laura and a host of family and friends.

John will always be remembered an independent, determined and hardworking man who will be deeply missed by all who crossed his path in life.
