John Richard DavisMARION: John Richard Davis, age 80 of Marion, passed away on Thursday, June 15, 2017 at the Marion General Hospital. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Boyd-Born Funeral Home.John was born on March 13, 1937 to the late John and Mary Ann (Vanorder) Davis in Marion, OH. On July 9, 1993, he married Sharon Carr in Marion, OH.John is a 1955 graduate of Marion Harding High School. He proudly served our country in the United States Army in Germany during the years 1960-1966. He was an avid athlete, playing softball for over 50 years. John also loved following his favorite teams: the Buckeyes, Indians and Browns. He valued spending time with his family. John was a long-time member of Trinity Baptist Church.John was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: Walter, Ervin and Kenneth Davis. He is survived by his wife: Sharon Davis; a son: John R. Davis of Evansville, IN; step-sons: Paul (Shannon) Carr of Garner, NC, Scott (Hannah) Carr of Galion, OH, and Matt. (Jennifer) Williams of Evansville, IN; a step-daughter: Sheila (Steven) Roper of Ft. Wayne, IN; two sisters: Betty (Tom) Wyckoff of Hilliard, OH and Ruth (Gary) Silvers of Marion, OH; and five grandchildren: Caleb & Joshua Roper, Brady Carr, and Emma & Mason Carr; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by his many friends. Family and Friends can come to honor John's life on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 from 5pm to 8pm at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home. Calling hours will also be held at Trinity Baptist Church on Wednesday, June 21, one hour prior to the service, which will begin at 11 am. The Rev. Dr. Steven J. Roper will be officiating.
