John Calvin Riggin, IIIDelmar-John Calvin Riggin, III, 70, of Delmar, passed away on Friday, March 10, 2017, at his home in Delmar, MD. He was born on December 4, 1946 in Salisbury, MD.Growing up he was active in sports and went to work at an early age. John graduated from Wicomico Senior High School, Salisbury, MD in 1964. He went on to Mitchell College in Statesville, N.C. before joining the United States Army in 1967. He served with the Third Infantry Honor Guard at Fort Myer in Arlington, VA with details that included Presidential Inaugurations and funerals. Upon separation from military life, he worked for Delmarva Power and found much success as an energy efficiency expert. He later used these skills with various heating and air businesses in the Salisbury area.Always the jokester, John's lifelong goal was to make people smile. Many will remember his "pride and joy" cards. His passion was classic cars and he enjoyed displaying them at car shows and interacting with other enthusiasts.He enjoyed volunteering at the Delmar VFW and served as an officer with the men's auxiliary. He was also a legionnaire and member of the Hebron American Legion.He is survived by his wife, Linda Cooper Riggin; his daughter, Kimberly (Dan) Botdorf and son Shawn (Melanie) Riggin; grandchildren, Thomas Botdorf, Danielle Botdorf, Ella Riggin and Gabe Riggin. Also surviving are sisters, Linda Purcell, Kathy (Gary) Marshall, and Cindy (Chuck) Harvey; brother-in-law Philip (Liz) Cooper, sisters-in-law, Anne Scott Lappin and Ruby Riggin as well as aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.He was preceded by his parents Rachel Costen Lappin, and Joseph Lappin as well as brothers, Joseph Lappin and Ralph Riggin.A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury, MD. Family and friends will gather 2 hours prior to the service. Interment, with military honors, will follow in Wicomico Memorial Park in Salisbury, MD.Special gratitude is extended to the staff of the Medical Oncology wing at P.R.M.C., and the staffs of Peninsula Home Care and Coastal Hospice during John's illness.In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Coastal Hospice, P.O.
