John Robert Spradlin, passed away, peacefully, on March 4, 2023 at the age of 88 after a brief illness. He was born August 18, 1934 in Alexandria, Virginia. He was known to most in the family as "Bob" or "Uncle Bob", and a few others as "John", but his beloved grandchildren knew him as "Poppie". He was well liked by anyone who knew him.
He was known by everyone as a perfectionist in every aspect of his life, especially as an outstanding welder at the Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth, Virginia and his personal skills in woodworking. He was very proud of his work, as bridge tender at North Landing Bridge in Chesapeake, Virginia.
Bob was married for 62 years, to his special friend and wife, Joyce Dail Spradlin. He especially loved his son, Scott and his daughter, Brittney and her husband, Jeff Warren and his grandchildren, Danielle , Amonta and Noah Warren.
He is survived by his sister, Frances Frey, of Michigan, and his brother Al Spradlin and his wife, Mary Jane, of Chesapeake, Virginia. He will be warmly remembered by many nieces, nephews and friends. A special thanks to his brother-in-law, Jimmy and his wife Sara Dail, and Joyce's cousins, Bill and Karen Smith, for all their kindness, support, and love.
He graduated in 1953, from Woodrow Wilson High School in Portsmouth, Virginia and the Norfolk Naval Apprentice School and was especially proud of his four years of service in the United States Air Force.
Services will be held privately. Arrangements are being handled by Sturtevant's Funeral Home on Portsmouth Boulevard in Portsmouth, Virginia.
