John Tuck Furness1923 ~ 2016Lehi, UT-John Tuck FurnessJohn Tuck Furness passed away at his home in Lehi, Utah on October 17, 2016. John was born on August 15, 1923 in Jerome, Idaho. He is the sixth child to Robert Furness and Vidella Catherine Tuck. He graduated from Preston High School in May 1942 and LDS Business College in October 1948. In 1944, he was drafted into the army and was assigned to the 7th Infantry Division in Okinawa during
World War II. He is a
Purple Heart recipient. When the war ended, he was shipped to Korea to complete his military service. After his discharge, he married Emma Ellen Alder on December 18, 1946 in the Logan Utah Temple where they were sealed for time and eternity. They lived in Salt Lake City where they raised their six children. He retired as the credit manager from Interstate Brick after working there for 35 years.John served in many callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints including ward clerk, bishop, stake presidency and at Church Headquarters. He and Emma served in the New York Rochester Mission in 1987-1988. He is survived by his wife of nearly 70 years; children Barry (Linda) Furness, John C. (Mary) Furness, Gloria (Jeffrey) Pulver, Beverly (Rodney) Terry, Douglas (Jill) Furness, and Annette (Kelly) Ward; sisters-in-law, Lela Alder and Mae Alder Cole. Also surviving are 19 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, siblings, and granddaughter Angie Furness.We appreciate the many caregivers during his illness. Funeral services for John will be held Saturday, October 22, 2016 at 11:00 am at the Jordan Willows 7th Ward, 901 South 2300 West in Lehi. A viewing will be held Friday, October 21, 2016 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Redwood Memorial Estates, 6500 S. Redwood Rd. in West Jordan and also 9:45 am to 10:45 am prior to the services on Saturday.
