John W. BroderickTroy - To know him was to love him. John William Broderick passed away September 18, 2017. He was born on June 28, 1933 in Poughkeepsie to Marian (Millious) Broderick and Joseph Broderick. He was predeceased by his sister, Frances Twombley and brother Joseph Broderick.He grew up in Staatsburg, NY in the bosom of a large loving family. Known for his outgoing personality and quick wit, he made friends wherever he went. Graduating from Franklin Delano Roosevelt High School in Hyde Park NY in 1950, he was soon hired by IBM in Poughkeepsie, then on to Fishkill where he continued a 40-year career until his retirement in 1991. Retirement really suited him, saying "it was the best job I ever had". He honorably served his country from 1953 to 1955 in the United States Army.Most important to John was his family whom he adored. His wife of 62 years, Janet (Dingae) Broderick, his sons William (Shelley), Gary, and Alan (Stephanie) Broderick. He doted on his grandchildren, Christine Bryant (Craig), Stephen Broderick (Ashley), Brittany Piper (David), Anastasia Broderick, Ryan Broderick, and Sarah Garner. He was predeceased by grandson Dominic Broderick. John also had 6 great-grandchildren, Tessa Morin, Kylie Bryant, Natalie Broderick, Connor Bryant, Camryn Bryant and Colten Broderick.An outdoorsman at heart, he was happiest at his summer home in Canada Lake New York chopping wood, doing repairs and soaking up the sun and fresh air. He also served on the Canada Lake Conservation Association Board for many years.As a volunteer, John was active in Little League and Scouting as his sons went through the programs. He also worked on the Pop Warner Committee which brought lighting to the athletic field at F.D. Roosevelt High School. He was an active member of Staatsburg Rod and Gun Club, Crum Elbow Rod and Gun Club, and Northern Dutchess Rod and Gun Club serving as Secretary of each.He was a member of First Baptist Church of Poughkeepsie for many years and served on several committees and as Moderator. He became a member of Cornerstone Community Church in Troy in 2014.Friends are invited to celebrate John's life at Doran Funeral Home, 9 South Lake Ave., Troy on Saturday, September 23 from 11 am to 1 pm with a service at 1 pm.In lieu of flowers, please contribute to the Canada Lake Conservation Association, P.O.
