John W. Campbell, 86 of La Vista, Neb. formerly of Glenwood, entered into rest on Oct. 27, 2016 in Omaha. He was born on Oct. 14, 1930 in Crown Point, Ind. to John Elles and Marion Clara (Peterson) Campbell.Following high school, John began his military career in the Air Force and attained the rank of Chief MSgt USAF (Ret). John worked for numerous military contractors domestically and abroad. He was the recipient of a bronze star and retired at Offutt Air Force Base on Aug. 14, 1974.Carol, John and James were born to the union of John's previous marriage. He was later united in marriage to Shirley L. (Fireoved) Bruce on Sept. 24, 1982 in Glenwood at the First Christian Church where they were both members. John enjoyed bowling, spending time on the computer and researching genealogy. In his spare time, he listened to older country music and watched military television shows.Preceding John in passing were his parents and brother, Raymond Campbell. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Campbell of La Vista, Neb.; children, Carol (Royce) Tyre of Eagen, Minn.; John (Sharon) Campbell of El Segundo, Calif.; James (Jacquelyn) Campbell of Papillion, Neb.; step-children, Bonnie (Mark) York of Omaha; Mike (Brenda) Bruce of Omaha; Heather Bruce of La Vista, Neb.; seven grandchildren, four step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Joan Campbell; several nieces, nephews, extended relatives and many friends.A visitation was held Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2016 from and services were held directly after at 11 a.m. at Peterson Mortuary.Interment and Military Rites were held in the Glenwood Cemetery.Memorials may be made to the Josie Harper Hospice House or .
