John "JB" William Brown John William Brown, "JB", age 76, of Akron, Ohio, died on August 28, 2017 at Akron City Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on July 26, 1941 in Akron, the son of the late Jack Barney and Bertha Frances Theresa Peternel Brown. JB was a machine repairman for Chrysler-Twinsburg Stamping Plant and retired with 24 years of service, retiring in 2006. He was an active AA member for the past 34 years. John was an honorably discharged
U.S. Navy veteran during the
Vietnam War. John was one of the most kind and gentle souls ever. He poured his heart and soul into others. John would do anything in his power to help others and to make sure they would have what they needed even if that meant that he'd go without. He was a solid foundation for family and friends. He always looked on the positive side and believed in everyone. He encouraged everyone to be the best that they can be and led them with a guiding hand. Many people have said that they are the person they are today because of his patience, guidance, wisdom, and love that he provided to them. He also had a very ornery and humorous side that could bring a smile and laughter to anyone. You couldn't help but to love him from the first time that you met him. Survivors include his wife, the former Sandra Roberts of 27 years; six children, John (Kathy) Brown, Debra McDonnell, David Brown, Stephen Gurnik, Ryan Gurnik, and Deana Evans; his grandchildren, Michael, Sarah, Matthew, Jessica, Terrance, and Makayla; his great-granddaughter, Myah "his little sweetheart". His siblings, also survive, Joan Dominique, Jeanette Bernard, Judy (Ralph) Bates, and Jim (Jan) Brown; his former wife, Marie Kovachick McClung; many nieces, nephews, and friends. Other than his parents; John was preceded in death by his daughter, Sandra Ann Brown; his sister and brother-in-law, Jackie and Dale Parrish; brother-in-law, George Dominique.Funeral services will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 North Canton Road, Akron, on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at 1 p.m., where Pastor Jim Roma will celebrate John's life. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Friday, September 1, 2017 from 5 to 7 p.m. Burial will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be given to Alcholics Anonymous.
