John E. Zon, 92, passed away peacefully at his home in McKinney, TX, on Sept. 30, 2017 due to complications of congestive heart failure. John was born on June 30, 1925 in Chicago IL to John and Josephine (Drozdziak) Zon. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during
WWII in the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign as a Corporal, Demolition Specialist, and was particularly proud of obtaining his Paratrooper wings. Among John's many Decorations and Citations awarded him was the
Purple Heart and the Combat Infantryman's Badge. He married the love of his life, Dolores (Kantorski), on May 10, 1952. Together, over 65 years of marriage, they were a true example of how to live a beautiful married life. John's career as a Purchasing Agent included time at FMC/Link Belt, retiring from Panduit Corp. in 1990. The first 5 years of retirement found John and Dolores in Mtn Home, AR where he enjoyed turning their wooded lot into a beautiful property. They returned to the Chicago area until 2007 when they moved to McKinney, TX to enjoy time with their daughter's family. John's greatest joys were times spent with his family and loved sharing in their accomplishments. He was a life-long Chicago Cubs fan and was so excited to finally see his beloved team win the World Series in 2016. He loved to share a laugh with everyone he met. John is survived by his wife; daughter Elizabeth (Robert) Andrzejewski of McKinney, TX; son John (Cynthia) of Joliet, IL; grandchildren Kevin (Heather), Jason, Jennifer (Bob), Brian, and James (Paula); great-grandchildren Brandon, Sean, Stacey, Michael; sister-in-law Lee (the late Hal) Chaires; nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister, brother Stanley and numerous family members and friends. A private, Memorial Mass will be held October 20, 2017, at St. Mark Catholic Church, Plano, TX. John lived a life with no regrets; he will be terribly missed.
