Payne, Johnette Fleetwood 88, died on Thursday, May 5, 2016, at Aldersgate Village. Johnie was born on May 15, 1927 in Wichita, KS, daughter of John and Katherine Fleetwood. She graduated from Wichita East High School and attended Washington University in St. Louis, where she met Jack Payne. They married and had two children, Carey Ann (Gregg) Van Sickle of Topeka, KS and Mark (Shirley) Payne of Houston, TX. Johnie and Jack later divorced. He preceded her in death in 1995. Johnie worked in the travel industry in Emporia, Kansas City, and Wichita. She traveled the world, including Europe, China, and Russia and many exotic ports of call. For the past 25 years, she lived in Topeka where she worked at JC Penney's and as a manager at Wesparke and Rosehill townhome complexes. After retirement, Johnie enjoyed chauffering residents of Wesparke and Rosehill to various appointments. She was an avid golfer, chef, and reader. She loved following national politics. A sister, Charlotte Fincham of Wichita, preceded her in death. In addition to her children, Johnie is survived by five grandchildren, John (Molly) Van Sickle, New York City; Andrew Van Sickle, Milwaukee, WI, Kelley (Tommy) Van Towle of Roeland Park, KS, Jeremy (Jenn) Payne, Houston, TX and Patrick (Brandee) Payne of Spokane, WS; three great-grandchildren, Grady, Charlie, and Colbie. A private family service will be held in Wichita. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Trent Memory Unit at Aldersgate Village, 7220 SW Asbury Dr., Topeka, KS 66614, where Johnie felt very happy and comfortable for the last two years of her life.
