Jon L. GateleyVentura, CAIt took Parkinson's, cancer, the flu, and pneumonia to finally get the better of him, but our good father and devoted husband went home to be with the Lord on the morning of February 25th, 2017. 'Pa' was born on April 25th, 1936 in Miami Florida to James and Lynea Gateley. After 4 years of enlisted service in the
U.S. Navy stationed in Fort Mason, California he earned his law degree in 1963 from UC Berkeley in addition to his BA degree in Political Science. After 6 years in private practice he accepted a position as Associate Counsel for the State of California, Worker's Compensation Appeals Board, in San Francisco. He moved to Ventura, California in 1972 where he served as Worker's Compensation Judge for 13 years before retiring from the State in 1985 at age 49. In 'retirement' he spent 4 years as a flight instructor and during that time helped son #3, Jim, earn his own private pilot's license. After that he and wife Sandy had a successful 10-year run in a jointly held real estate brokerage before finally retiring for good together in 1999.He was very active in both the church and on the tennis court his entire adult life, and was finally forced to hang his racquet up just last year shortly after his 80th birthday. He is survived by wife Sandy and 3 of his 4 sons, Jon Jr, Jim, and Joe, as well as his two grandchildren Amber and Gabrielle, all of us sharing the Gateley last name. Son Jeff predeceased his father in 2013. Memorial service will be held at Ventura Baptist Church this Saturday, March 4th, at 11am with reception immediately following. In lieu of flowers we ask that you make a donation to the Ventura Baptist Church's Benevolence Fund in honor of Jon Gateley.
