Rev. Jonas Colby (J.C.) Dyson, 89, of Lake City, died Saturday evening, November 17, 2012. Jonas was born on February 28, 1923 on Pecan Island, Louisiana. He married Amie Irene Hebert in 1943. Jonas worked many trades until he and Irene were called into the ministry at the age of 38. Both graduated from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in 1964. Along side his wife, they served as Baptist Missionaries to the Ponca City and Oklmulgee Indians of Oklahoma, founding and building two churches. They came to North Florida in 1981, pastoring several churches around Lake City and together co-directed the Christian Service Center for five years. After retiring, they faithfully served the community, leading Bible Studies at the Golden Age Center and at Lakewood Apartments. Both volunteered at the Kindergarten Center and Westside Elementary School and received, Senior Volunteer of the Year awards three separate years. After his wife of 64 years passed in 2007, he has lived the last five years with his three daughters, Connie Bryant, Peggy Dyson, and Vicki Steward. He is also survived by six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Those who know him know he was "Blessed"! Funeral services for Rev. Dyson will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at Parkview Baptist Church in Lake City, Florida, where he was a faithful member of the church and his Sunday school class. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
