With love and deep sadness, we announce the passing of Jose Xavier Hernandez, lovingly known to his family as “Papa Bear,” at the age of 71.
Jose lived a long, happy, and full life surrounded by the people he loved most. A devoted husband, he shared a lifetime of love with his wife, creating a home that was always filled with warmth, laughter, and family. Together, they raised five wonderful children, who will forever carry with them the lessons, strength, and love he gave so freely. As a grandfather and uncle, “Papa Bear” was a steady source of comfort and joy—always ready with a smile, a story, or a word of encouragement.
He spent many years working for the city, where he dedicated himself with pride and commitment. But above all, Jose’s greatest accomplishment was the love he poured into his family. His presence could light up a room, his heart was as big as his nickname, and his love was felt by everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Jose leaves behind his loving wife, his five children, his grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will carry his spirit with them always. His memory will live on in every story told, every tradition continued, and every moment of laughter shared around the family table.
Though our hearts ache with his loss, we are comforted in knowing that “Papa Bear” will always be with us—in our memories, in our hearts, and in the love he taught us to share.
You can to the family or in memory of Jose Hernandez.
