Joseph David ChristensenJan. 16, 1992- Aug. 23, 2017MontereyJoseph "Joey" David Christensen passed away at the young age of 25 on August 23, 2017, surrounded by loved ones. He is survived by his parents; Father, Danny and Melissa Christensen of Monterey, California, Mother, Tammy Christensen and Ray Arellano of Etna, California. He was adored by sister Racheal, brother in-law Chris, big brother Daniel II, and little sister Mariah. Tawny, Mitchell, Tesha, Ethan, Stephanie and Kevin were also proud to call him brother. He will be missed by his longtime girlfriend, Allison Bauer, as well as many of his other family members. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, John David Christensen of Carmel.Joey was born on January 16th, 1992 at the Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula. He grew up on our beautiful peninsula, where he graduated from Monterey High School with the class of 2010. As a Toreador, Joey excelled at sports including baseball and football. He was a three year member of the varsity football team and selected to the 2010 Monterey Bay League All-star Team. Joey was also honored with the All MBL Linebacker Award. After high school, he persued his interest in mixed martial arts, physical conditioning and boxing.Joey learned the craft of bartending and became a familiar face working at local establishments including; Old Fisherman's Grotto, Cooper's Pub and Blue Fin. He was described as a nice guy with a good heart. Joey had a handsome smile, loving spirit and ability to hold an easy conversation with just about anyone. Joey's favorite times were spent with family, friends and his "band of brothas", especially with his brother Daniel II. He enjoyed playing cards, bowling, rolling dice, shooting billiards and enjoying life. He was a passionate Pittsburgh Steelers fan.Service will be held on Saturday, September 2nd, 10:30 am at Living Hope Church of the Nazarene, 1375 Josselyn Canyon Rd/Hwy 68, Monterey. Parking is limited, please carpool if possible. Extra parking with shuttle will be available at 2400 Garden Road/Garden Crt, Monterey.Celebration of life to follow at 5pm at Portola Hotel and Spa, 2 Portola Plaza, Monterey, in the De Anza Room.Very special thanks to Joey's first responders of Monterey Police/Fire Department and the elite medical staff of Santa Clara Valley Medical Center Burn Unit.
