DOVER - Dr. Joseph J. Ward passed away peacefully on Dec. 14, 2016, with his loving family at his side. He was the son of the late Joseph and Beatrice Ward and the brother of Patricia Kulaga. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte; son, John; daughter-in-law, Natascha; daughter, Michelle; grandchildren, Bobby, Amanda, Matthew, Emily and her fiancé, Jason; and great-grandchildren, Audry, Riley, and Brailynn; and nephew, John Kulaga and family. He also leaves behind three brothers, Bob and his wife, Peggy, Richard and his wife, Joan, Thomas; and nieces and nephews. Dr. Ward was born on May 6, 1931 in Newark, N.J. He served his country as a sergeant in the Army during the Korean War and graduated from the National College of Chiropractic in 1957; also earned degrees in X-Ray/Spinograph, Physiotherapy, Clinical Microscopy and Orthopedics. Dr. Ward practiced chiropractic in Pennsville, N.J. and Dover. He was also a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. During his free time, Joseph enjoyed playing the organ, traveling the world with family and watching the Flyers and Phillies. Over the years, he and his wife opened their home to 42 exchange students from many different countries. This extended family included Bill Zeledon, Herr Dr. Tobias Wächter, Herr Dr. Heiner Niehaus, and Otto Müller, as well as their respective families. Joseph's loving, kind, and generous nature will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him. A mass of Christian burial will be held 12 Noon, Friday, Dec. 16, 2016, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 631 S. State Street, Dover. Friends may call one hour prior. Interment will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to at stjude.org.
