HANNAN, "Jim"HANNAN, Colonel (ret) USAF Joseph James Hannan passed away with his family by his side on September 6, 2017. He was born on April 11, 1932, in Albany, New York, to Patrick Albert Hannan and Rosemary Callahan Hannan. He was a graduate of Christian Brothers Academy in Albany, New York, graduated with a BS in Economics from Union College in Schenectady, NY and a Master in Business Administration at Troy University. He was a graduate of the Squadron Officer School and Air Command & Staff College.Among his numerous Air Force decorations and medals were: Meritorious Service Medal with 1 device, Air Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, Air Force Longevity Service Award with 6 devices, National Defense Service Medal with 1 device, Vietnam Service Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with 2 devices.He is survived by his wife Dottye Sullivan Hannan and his four children Deborah Sue White (John Alan), Daniel Alexander Hannan (Jamison), Dana Marie Hannan, and Jamie Lynn Hodges (MacGregor) He is also survived by his beloved three grandsons, Ian Alexander Hannan Garrison, Joseph Edward White, and Alexander Sullivan Hannan. The entire Hannan family extends a special thanks to his very dear caregiver Ella Taylor.Jim's passions were his family- especially watching his grandsons grow up, listening to classical music, golf, and both St Peter's and the Catholic Church. The Hannans have enjoyed sponsoring the Australian Officers and their families for over thirty years at the classes on Maxwell Air Force Base. Jim enjoyed swapping 'tall tales' with the Officers, spoiling the children and enjoying the many treats that were prepared for him by the ladies! His most important passion was his wife Dottye - who he always described as the love of his life.The visitation will be Friday, September 8, 2017, at Leak Memory Chapel from 5:00-7:00pm with a Rosary at 7 pm.The Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, September 9, 2017, at St Peter's Catholic Church at 11:00am, with the burial to follow at St Margaret's Section in Oakwood Cemetery with full military honors.In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to The Montgomery Symphony Orchestra at PO Box 1964, Montgomery AL 36102; Respite Ministry at FUMC, 2416 W Cloverdale Park Rd36106; or a charitable contribution of your choice.
