ALLEN, TEXAS - Joseph M. Whitley, age 50, of Allen, Texas, loving father, husband and brother, passed away on Monday, June 4, 2012. He was born on September 5, 1961, in Kinston, North Carolina, to the late Frederick and Magalene Whitley. Joe proudly served our country in the United States Army. He was currently employed as an IT Specialist and Consultant for 2X Software, LLC. Joe also owned and operated Pegasus IT Enterprises, LLC. Before moving to Texas he lived and worked in the IT field in the Allentown, Pennsylvania area. He was a Methodist but actively attended St. Basil the Great Byzantine Catholic Church with his family. Joe had served as a coach for the Allen Special Olympics for the past few years. When he lived in Allentown, Pennsylvania, Joe was involved in PTO, was a coach for various local sports organizations and was a former member of the Down Syndrome Parent Network. He had a deep love for family and friends and was a caring and witty man with a great sense of humor; he will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him. Joe is survived by his loving wife Alexis, to whom he was married 23 wonderful years; two daughters, Eden and Elissa; brothers Freddy Whitley of Dover, North Carolina and Duane Whitley and his wife Terri, of Swansboro, North Carolina; sister Kathryn Smith and husband Phil, of Pollocksville, North Carolina; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 7, 2012, from 6-9 p.m. with a Great Parastas service beginning at 7p.m. in St. Basil the Great Byzantine Catholic Church, 1118 E. Union Bower Rd., Irving, TX 75061. Funeral services will be on Friday, June 8, 2012, at 11 a.m. in the church. Interment will follow in Plano Mutual Cemetery.
