Mattos, Joseph Joseph G. Mattos, 87, went to be with his heavenly father and loving wife on September 12, 2017. He was born on December 11, 1929 in Taunton, Massachusetts to Manuel and Mary Mattos. Joseph left Taunton in 1948 and joined the
U.S. Coast Guard until 1950 when he transferred service to the
U.S. Air Force. During his military service, Joseph served one year in Thailand in support of the
Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1969 as a Tech Sergeant after serving his country for 21 years. Joseph married the love of his life, Theodora Pina, in 1950 to whom he stayed married to until Dora passed away in 2015. Joseph and Dora had nine Children; six girls and three boys. The family retired in Phoenix, Arizona where Joseph worked as a lineman for Qwest, formerly known as U.S. West, for 20 years earning his second retirement. Joseph spent his retired years traveling, woodworking and creating wooden critters and scenes for his family and friends. Joseph was preceded in death by his wife, Theodora, son, Joseph Mattos and daughter, Brenda Mattos. He is survived by his sons, David Mattos (Patti) and John Mattos (Kim); daughters, Gwendolyn Kielblock (Robert), Mary Tiemeyer (Jim), Rose Riley (Tom), Elizabeth Martin (Ron) and Celeste Hintz (Karl), 20 Grandchildren, 28 Great Grandchildren, and 2 Great-Great Grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to attend a Visitation at Surprise Funeral Care, 16063 West Bell Road, Surprise, Arizona 85374, September 20, 2017 starting at 5pm and the Funeral Service at Surprise Funeral Care September 21, 2017 at 10am. Burial will be accompanied by Military Honors at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona September 21, 2017 at 1pm. In Lieu of Flowers please send donations to at
