LIGONIER — Joseph G. Stump, 89, of Ligonier died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2014, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne. Mr. Stump was a lifetime Ligonier area farmer. He was a member of Wawasee Chapel, and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He graduated from Wolf Lake High School in 1943 and went on to serve his country honorably in the U. S. Army during World War II. He was a participant in the Battle of the Bulge and received the Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. He was born on Jan. 3, 1925, to Asa and Pearl (Galloway) Stump in Kimmell. On Dec. 23, 1943, he married Lois Winebrenner in Little Rock, Arkansas. She preceded him in death on Feb. 24, 2002. He then married Amanda 'Becky" Zehr in 2004. She preceded him in death in 2008. Surviving are his children, Judy (Terry) Riordan of Lincoln, Nebraska, Norris (Judy Rohrer) Stump of Cromwell, Joseph Glen (Ellena Collins) Stump Jr. of Grabill, Kay (Les) Rosenogle of Ligonier, and Esther (John) Harlan of Ligonier; two stepchildren, Donna (Greg) Conrad of Arizona, and Carol Vanoni of Ligonier; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruby (Fred) Campbell of Ligonier; and several stepgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Lowell Stump; and a sister, Evelyn Gaerte. A funeral service will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Yeager Funeral Home with Pastors Harlan Steffen and Brad Cox officiating. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery in Wilmot. Visitation will be Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials are to Northeast Indiana Honor Flight or Wawasee Lakeside Chapel.
