Joseph Volk Beloved husband, father, grandfather (papa), uncle, and dear friend was called to heaven on April 22, 2017, surrounded by family. Joe was born on March 19, 1927 to Frank and Magdalena Volk in Hague, ND. He spent most of his youth working with his father on their family farm before serving as a Sergeant in the US Army during the Korean War from 1950-53. In 1962 he married the love of his life, Diane, and a few years later moved to Enumclaw, WA, where they spent the next 45 years raising their family and enjoying time with their grandchildren. During this time Joe also celebrated a career of 25 years with the Washington State Department of Transportation. After retirement he became the first official form of free daycare for his first grandchild. He also enjoyed time meeting friends for coffee, playing cards, and being the official (unofficial) sportscaster to commentate on any type of sporting event you can imagine. Joe will always be remembered for his ability to make a friend wherever he went, a gentle sense of humor, his skillful art at the pinochle table, and most of all making sure the ones he loved were taken care of. He is survived by his four children, Jeff, Linda (husband Scott Helm), Laura (husband Jerry Slater), and Tom (wife Tricia); four grandchildren, Breanna, Brittany, Marley, and Indria; great-grandson Kamden; five nephews, Darwin, Rodney, Joseph, Randy, and Mickey; and niece Michelle. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Diane; father and mother Frank and Magdalena; and sister and brother Eleanor and Marce. A memorial service will be held on May 19, at 11:00 am at Enumclaw Sacred Heart Church. A rosary will be held prior at 10:30 am. Please sign the online guestbook at
