Joseph W. Schultz, 73, of Moline, IL, died Monday, March 20, 2017, at the University of Illinois, Chicago, IL. A memorial graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 24, 2017, at the National Cemetery at the Rock Island Arsenal, where military honors will be conducted by the Moline American Legion Post 246. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Friday at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline. Those wishing to attend the graveside service should meet at the funeral home by 12:15 p.m. on Friday. Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorials may be made to the . Joe was born on June 17, 1943, in Joliet, IL, the son of Joseph A. and Marcella A. Persak Schultz. He married Deborah F. Delaney on December 2, 1967, in Wilmington, IL. He began his career in 1963 working for the Army Ammunition Plant in Joliet. Joe went on to become the Director of Information Technology Services for the Department of Defense at the Rock Island Arsenal, where he worked for 41 dedicated years, retiring in 2004. Joe was a veteran, having proudly served in the United States Army 101st Airborne Division. He was drafted in 1965 and served in Vietnam. Following his return home, Joe transferred in 1973 to the Rock Island Arsenal. He enjoyed golf, bike riding, and hiking. More than anything, Joe loved to spend time with his family. Survivors include his wife, Deborah Schultz; sons, Michael (Monica) Schultz, St. Louis, MO, and Steven (Sherri) Schultz, Cleveland, OH; grandson, Tristan Schultz; granddaughter, Delaney Schultz; sister, Jackie (Jerry) Conlee, Downers Grove, IL.
