August 11, 1929 - July 23, 2017Dr. Joseph William Wall, Jr., died peacefully July 23, 2017. He was born on August 11, 1929 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, to Joseph W. and Mae D. Wall. He graduated from Covina Union High School, Covina, California and attended University of California at Berkeley for three years before transferring and graduating from the University of Tennessee. Joe graduated from University of Tennessee College of Dentistry and Washington University of Dentistry, St. Louis. He entered the Air Force and started his residency in Oran and Maxillofacial Surgery at Lackland AFB. His professional organization memberships included the American Board of Oral Surgeons, American Society of Oral Surgeons, Mid-Atlantic Society of Oral Surgeons, Society of Air Force Clinical Surgeons, and American Dental Society. Dr. Wall spent 22 years proudly serving his country while providing the utmost care for his patients; retiring as a Colonel.While stationed at Maxwell AFB he evaluated and treated many Vietnam American prisoners of war in 1973. He was also part of the task force to help identify and process the remains of hundreds of victims of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Pam American/KLM aircraft disaster of March 1977.After leaving the Air Force, Dr. Wall worked with Project Hope as Professor, Faculty of Dentistry at Cairo and Alexandria Universities in Egypt. He returned to California and taught in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, School of Dentistry at University of Southern California.His hobbies included playing golf, reading about current events, studying military history and traveling. He often would say that his one minute of fame was when he played in the Rose Bowl for Berkeley.Dr. Wall is survived by his wife of 41 years, Mary, and their son, Joseph (JJ) Wall III. Joe and his former wife, Carmel Bass (deceased), are survived by daughters Candace, Carol and Cynthia. He loved and was proud of all four children and 10 grandchildren. Joe is also survived by sisters, Helen Stackhouse and Carol Marquez-Olson of Ventura, California.A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.You are invited to signthe Guestbook at
