Josephine B. QuigleyJosephine B. Quigley was born on September 5 1923 at Vassar Brothers Hospital in Poughkeepsie to Leopold Beyer and Estelle Flagler Beyer. She passed away on October 10, 2016 in Leland, North Carolina. Her celebration of life on October 15, 2016 was attended by many family and friends from across the country.Jo lived in Poughkeepsie most of her life. She graduated from Poughkeepsie High School in 1941 and was the president of Phi Epsilon Phi sorority. She was employed at Schatz Federal Bearing Co as a secretary until she joined the Women's Marine Corp in 1943. Jo was stationed at Camp Lajeune, NC and Parris Island, GA were she attended Non-Commissioned Officer School and achieved the rank of Sargent. Upon discharge in 1945 she returned to Poughkeepsie and her employment with Schatz Federal.Jo married Allen Lawson Quigley Jr. in Poughkeepsie in 1947 and dedicated most her time to raising three children: Susan, Joanne and Allen. Raised a Quaker, Jo joined the Dutch Reform Church on Hooker Avenue were she taught Sunday school and actively added her beautiful alto voice to the choir. Jo was accomplished in many sports including tennis and golf (which she played into her early 80s) and bowling. She also volunteered at Vassar Hospital for many years.Jo and her husband retired to Port St. Lucie Fl in 1980. After her husband's death in October 5, 2000, she eventually moved to Leland, NC in 2008. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her 4 sisters; Elizabeth Burroughs, Dorothy MacDowell, Emma Selfridge and her twin sister, Emma Jean Beyer, who passed away at 4 months.Jo is survived by her children, Susan Quigley (Delia), Longbranch, WA; Joanne Geisel (Bob), Leland, NC; and Allen Quigley, Wilmington, NC; 4 grandchildren (Kali, Allison, April, Erika) and 8 great-grandchildren.There will a memorial service for both Al and Jo at the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery in the spring 2017. The family requests that any donations be made to your local Hospice.
