ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. — Josephine Dawson, 75, passed away on June 10, 2014.
She was born on May 28, 1939 to the late George and Katie Langston Welch. In addition to her parents, Josephine was preceded in death by her first husband of 26 years LeRoy Floyd, her second husband of four years Dennis Dawson, son Millard Tedder, brothers Merill Welch and Dickie Welch, and grandchild Devin DuPerry.
Josephine worked as a seamstress for 35 years. She also farmed and raised vegetable gardens, which she really enjoyed. She was very proud of her family. When she wasn't spending time with them she was talking about them to her friends, especially about her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Josephine taught Sunday school and was instrumental in starting GA's at her church in South Carolina. She attended Faith Gospel Church.
Josephine is survived by her children Freddy Floyd and wife Cindy, Rebecca DuPerry, Vicki Parker, Lemuel Floyd and wife Kim, Scarlet Barnhill and husband Robbie, Anna Hunt and husband Jeff, Katie Holliday and husband Joe, and Vender Ann Lee, brothers Garreth Welch, R. Jay Welch, Alvey Welch, and Francis Welch, 35 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, several nieces and nephews, and many more special family members and friends.
Funeral Services for Josephine Dawson will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Friday at the Mountain City Funeral Home with Pastor Jeffrey Maley and Pastor Ray Slemp officiating. Scripture and special remarks will be given by Mr. Tim Nelson. Special music will be conducted by daughter, Anna Hunt and Bob and Martine Hope.
Graveside service and interment will follow the funeral service on Friday from the Sunset Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Terry Slemp, Allen Slemp, Wesley Garland, Mitch Stout, Jack Perkins, Rodney Toney, Jimmy Osborne, and John Lowe. Honorary pallbearers are Lavern Parker and Michael Duperry.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. on Thursday at Mountain City Funeral Home.
At other times, the family will receive friends at the home of daughter Scarlett Barnhill, 121 Dooleys Ridge Road, Mountain City, TN.
