It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joy Hayes, a beloved member of the Eden, North Carolina community. Joy was born on January 12, 1956, and tragically left us on August 26, 2023.

Joy brought happiness and warmth to everyone she encountered throughout her life. Her radiant smile and kind-hearted nature were infectious, making her a cherished friend and beloved family member. She was a pillar of strength and a source of inspiration to all who knew her.Born and raised in Eden, Joy developed a deep love and appreciation for her hometown. She worked tirelessly to give back to her community, becoming actively involved in numerous charitable organizations and volunteering her time to support those in need. Joy's selflessness and unwavering dedication made a profound impact on countless lives.Joy was not only a devoted community member but also a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She cherished her family and took great pride in watching her children and grandchildren grow and flourish. Her unwavering love and guidance provided a solid foundation for her family, instilling in them the values of compassion, generosity, and resilience.Prior to her retirement, Joy worked as an elementary school teacher for over three decades. Her passion for education was evident in the countless lives she touched and positively influenced. Joy's students always held a special place in her heart, and her commitment to their growth and success went far beyond the classroom.In her free time, Joy enjoyed gardening, cooking, and immersing herself in a good book. She was a vibrant soul who found solace and joy in the simple pleasures of life. Joy's love for nature was unparalleled, and she found great peace spending time outdoors, surrounded by the beauty of her garden.Joy will forever be remembered for her kindness, compassion, and unwavering love for her family and community. Her legacy will live on through the countless lives she touched and the imprint she left on our hearts.Joy is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, John Hayes; their children, Sarah Hayes and Michael Hayes; and her adored grandchildren, Emily, Jacob, and Olivia. She is also survived by her siblings, Tyrone Sonya, kevin and scotty alston.A memorial service will be held in honor of Joy Hayes on September 2, 2023, at the Eden Community Church, located at 123 Main Street, Eden, North Carolina. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Eden Community Outreach Center, a cause that was near and dear to Joy's heart.Joy will forever be missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. May her soul find eternal peace.
