This obituary is administered by:

"Aunty" In loving memory

Joyce Allicock, known as "Aunty", age 90, of Elmont, New York, fell asleep in death on December 30, 2020. She was born on October 17, 1930, in Georgetown Guyana, the fifth of six siblings to the late Samuel and Rosaline Devonish. She is preceeded in death by brothers; Melvin, Harold, Elroy and sisters Evelyn Eversley and Elva Durant. A caring and loving woman, she was known as "Aunty" by friends and the many nieces and nephews she cared for when they were young.

She attended St Phillips Primary School and later the Carnegie School of Home Economics in Georgetown where she learned among other skills the preparation of local and Caribbean dishes and pastry making.

Despite suffering the loss of her children's father when they were very young, she supported herself and her children by successfully starting and operating a pastry business. Simultaneously, she attended Pittmans Career Institute where she learned typewriting, bookeeping, stenography and data entry. She later worked at the Internal Revenue Service of Guyana and retired as a supervisor of the data entry department.

In the sixties, she met Sydney Allicock and after a short courtship, they got married. In the late sixties she began studying the Bible with Alice Tracey, a Jehovah's Witness, who was a missionary to Guyana. She interrupted her studies for several years through the 1970's but returned to studying the bible in the 1980's.

In1988, she dedicated her life to Jehovah and was baptized. Joyce attended the Charlestown congregation and engaged in House to House ministry. She aslso participated in informal witnessing and was often seen in the market place. "Aunty" was also known and loved for the informal gatherings she had at her home for the young members of the congregation after meetings.

In 1989, she emigrated to the USA and settled in Flatbush, Brooklyn. She worked as a Home Care aide until she retired. While residing in Brooklyn, she attended the Flatbush and Fenimore congregations.

In 2002, she moved to Elmont, New York, in Nassau County and attended the Murdock congregation. At Murdock, she engaged in all forms of the ministry, as her health permitted. She attended the Elmont Senior Citizen Center and would engage in informal witnessing to the residents at the center. Joyce learned to paint while attending the center and was fond of giving her paintings as gifts to friends and family members.

"Aunty" will be profoundly missed, but never forgotten by her son Keith Miller and daughter Marva Moore. Grandchildren; Brian Miller, Jaimee Miller, and Darren Moore and great-grandchildren; Lance Richards, Evan Thomas and Dream Moore, daughter-in-law Ramdai Miller, son-in-law Michael Moore, dozens of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and many friends.

Sleep on beloved, rest in peace. You were dearly loved by Jehovah and by us.
