Mrs. Joyce Rae Bookout Elms died peacefully in Charlotte, NC on November 7, 2017 at the age of 84. Joyce is survived by her daughters, Diane Plyler of Oakboro NC, Kathy Haynes of Goodyear, AZ, Carol Hemby of Ft. Mill, SC and Linda Cobler, of Lenoir NC; brother, Jimmie Bookout of Charlotte, NC; 8 grandchildren & 7 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by husband, Richard Shurley Elms. Joyce was born on January 22, 1933 in Charlotte, NC to David and Beulah Bookout. She graduated from Technical High School in Charlotte. She married Shurley in 1952, and was married 47 years. A funeral is scheduled for 1:00pm Sunday, November 12, 2017 at Forest Lawn West. A visitation with refreshments to follow. Pastor Luke Maybry will officiate the ceremony.
