She attended grade school in Buckeye, graduated from Alden High School and later from Ellsworth Community College. On March 11, 1966, Joyce was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Robert Schager. They lived on a farm west of Alden and had 3 children. Joyce worked at the Buckeye Farm Store, then at the Alden State Bank and later as business manager for the family farm. Her attention to detail and dedication to the business was impeccable. Joyce was diagnosed with PSC in 2002. She took excellent care of herself; because of her discipline with diet and exercise, no one would have known she had a serious liver disease.Joyce was a member of the Alden United Methodist Church and served on the Ellsworth College Foundation Board; she really enjoyed her work with The Pat Clark Art Collection. She was a talented seamstress and an excellent baker, her chocolate chip cookies and homemade rolls were favorites. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and loved to watch them participate in their activities. She had a passion for University of Iowa Athletics and enjoyed attending home football games and Hawkeye Bowl games. She never complained, always had a smile and was so thankful for the times she was able to visit with friends. Joyce and her family appreciated the flowers, visits and food brought in the last few months as her illness progressed.
