Juan Macias Rodriguez was born on May 24, 1923, in Maricopa, CA, and on Wednesday, November 23, 2016, at the age of 93, entered into eternal rest in Fresno, CA. During his early years, he was raised in Fresno County and vicinity. In 1930, the family returned to Ocampo, Guanajuato, Mexico, when his father was not able to find employment due to economic conditions. He married Maria de Jesus Rosales of La Haciendita, Guanajuato, Mexico, in 1942. In 1945, he returned to Texas and raised his family. In 1958, he moved his family to California and became a resident of Mendota, CA. Juan worked as a foreman at Coit Ranch and also for Stamoules Ranch. Juan was a good natured man of deep faith and a devout Catholic. He and his wife, Maria de Jesus, taught their children to attend church on Sundays and on holy days of obligation. On the day before he passed away, he recognized everyone present and gave each one a personal blessing. He loved to play his guitar at church and family gatherings. He would call his children on the day of their birthdays playing his guitar and singing Las Mañanitas accompanied by his wife and his oldest daughter Juanita. He kept up with current events by watching news and loved to listen to Mexican music. He loved to watch the sport of boxing. He also taught his children the importance of voting which he did every election. Juan valued education and instilled that value in his children. He loved to work in his yard and made sure it was free of weeds. in his later years, he was not able to do yardwork because of his health and he missed working in his yard. Juan was preceded in death by his parents, Magdaleno and Petra (Macias) Rodriguez of Ocampo, Guanajuato, Mexico; siblings, Benigno, Pedro and Lupe; grandchildren, John James Coursey and Cynthia Maria Jurado. He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Maria de Jesus Rodriguez; his nine children, Juanita Coursey, Teresa West and husband Tom, Antonio Rodriguez and wife Marta C., Margaret Ellis and husband Dave, Graciela Rodriguez, Virginia Rodriguez, Victoria Rodriguez and husband Carlos Camino, Sylvia Rodriguez-Wodyka and husband Mark S., and Jose L. Rodriguez and wife Maria. Juan is also survived by 15 grandchildren, Susan E. Greenwood, Cathy A. Coursey, Debbie J. Gomez, Tracy N. Briceno, Julie A. Castro, Erica J. Bohl, Stephanie M. Rodriguez, Michelle R. Rodriguez, David T. Stopper, Jaime N. Gilrein, Andrew J. Smith, Matthew D. Smith, Britt-Allen D. Brown, Christina M. Camino, and Angelica V. Camino; 21 great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; his brother, Miguel Rodriguez of El Centro, CA; sister, Juanita Puente of Dallas, TX; and many nephews, nieces, cousins and other relatives. The family would like to thank Dr. Alfonso Velasco, MD for the medical care and personal medical attention he gave Juan throughout the many years. Visitation and a Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at Lisle Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 6, 2016, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Firebaugh, CA, on Wednesday, December 7, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. Juan will be laid to rest at Fresno Memorial Gardens.
