Don Juan Pablo García, 95, a resident of Peñasco Blanco in Mora County, passed into eternal life peacefully in the presence of loved ones in his home on Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013. He is survived by his loving wife, Adelina Aragón García, 92, and numerous relatives and friends. Juan Pablo, also known simply as Pablo, was beloved by many for his wisdom, humor, knowledge, and extraordinary work ethic. He was best known for the past 60 years as the owner and operator of a sawmill and logging operation in Peñasco Blanco where his many customers made visits to purchase lumber but often stayed longer to enjoy Pablo's unique gift of conversation. He was often consulted for his knowledge of the genealogy of the families of the Mora Valley and surrounding areas.He instilled in his family the dignity of hard work and involved his brothers, sons, and grandchildren in his logging and ranching operation. He was well known as a grower of wheat, rye, and barley, and, until recently, continued to grow blue corn, calabazas (squash), alverjon (peas), and pinto beans in his garden. Pablo continued working with his son, Dennis, and grandchildren, Christina and Joshua, in logging as well as cutting lumber and firewood. He treated his cattle like members of the family and continued to feed them or visit them daily on his ranch in Peñasco Blanco.Pablo was born on Sept. 8, 1918 to Samuel and Rupertita García and was raised in the area of LeDoux and El Carmen. He had a long and full life living most of his years in Peñasco Blanco or the area known as Las Quebraditas. In his younger years, he worked as a sheepherder and farmworker in Colorado, Wyoming and Montana, as a laborer with the Civilian Conservation Corps in Arizona, and as a shipbuilder during WWII in northern California. He returned to Peñasco Blanco to purchase land, to start a trucking business as a "fletero," and eventually to start his "maquina de rajar" in the 1940s. He was preceded in his passing by his parents; siblings, Mary Roybal, Virginia Hernandez, Samuel García, Jr., Manuel García, Gene García, and Charlie García, and children, Felix García, Alonzo García, and Evelyn García. He is survived by his younger brothers, Juan García, Joe García, and Ted García, as well as Helen Santos and their children and grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Tony Aragón, of LeDoux and his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Adelina Aragón García, who was his partner in marriage and a loving companion who raised nine children and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Adelina also assisted Pablo with the family sawmill and ranching business. He is also survived by his children, Paul Garcia, Jr. and wife, Angela, Max García and wife, Rachel, Ruby Sedillo, Louie García, Dennis García and companion, Ruby Martínez, Sam García and companion, Lisa Ayon, and daughter-in-law, Doris García. He leaves several grandchildren to continue his legacy including: Paula García, Pamela García, Felix García, Jr., Jerome García, Jeremy García, Dolores García, Daniel García, Lucinda Akers, Desiree Garcia, Christina García, Lee Andrea Martínez, Joshua Martínez, Savannah García, Arianna García, Sarah Gannan, and Angelo García. He had four great-grandchildren, Marcus García, Joaquín Romero, Isabella Martínez, and Richard Martínez. He was close to many relatives including his godson and nephew, Ron García, who documented family history, and his nephew, Alfredo Aragón Roybal, who during his life was a frequent guest at the García home. He had many friends and in recent years he and Adelina had embraced Joe and Stephanie Deland as part of the family.Pablo García was a lifelong member of St. Gertrude's Parish and a trustee for La Merced de la Comunidad de El Carmen. He was a man of faith and humility who believed in sharing his labor, gifts, and talents to benefit the community.The rosary was prayed by La Cofradía de Nuestro Padre Jesus Nazareno at 7 p.m. Sunday at St. Gertrude's Parish in Mora followed by refreshments at the Parish Hall. The mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by Father Paul Grala, S.O.L.T., at 10 a.m. today (Monday) at St. Gertrude's Church followed by the burial at the cemetery of La Merced de la Comunidad de El Carmen. A meal will be served following the burial at the VFW Post 1131 in Mora.Pallbearers for the rosary and funeral will be: Felix García, Jr., Daniel García, Jerome García, Joaquín Romero, Daniel Pacheco, and Michael Aragón. Honorary pallbearers will be: Joshua Martínez, Ron García, Patrick García, Orlando Roybal, and Joe Deland. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Rogers Mortuary.The family of Juan Pablo García would like to thank St. Gertrude's Catholic Church, La Cofradía de Nuestro Padre Jesus Nazareno, and all the family and friends who have offered prayers and condolences and who have expressed their gratitude for having shared in the life of an honorable and respected man. He will live on in the memory of those who knew him.
